Did anyone happen to catch the Tesla coil bit on Time Warp? I must have missed it the first time it aired, and I only caught the last bit of it last night. Short video clip at: Link2

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but the application of high speed cameras to Tesla coiling was quite interesting.

I missed that episode also when it first aired. Looks cool.

Hm, would that happen to be Dr. Megavolt?

Yea that was Dr. Megavolt.

It looked pretty cool. You could easily tell each spark happened right as the rsg fires (we all know that is how it works, i just mean it is easy to see on one of the clips). It is really cool when it just barely breaks out on the top of the toroid, instead of a long streamer. Just a few inches or perhaps a foot of streamers, they just looked cool somehow in super slowmo. I wish i had a slow mo camera, but i guess everyone does? I would like to see a halfwave rectified vttc. That would be interesting to me :P.

i did not catch the episode... my non-tech-oriented dad assumed somehow that a show, which airs on a different day, could cancel his show recording - I didn't know there were still new ones!
I think a few members here along with myself have some basic high speed cameras but nothing like those ones - I tried getting a coil about a month ago, but by the time I had set up the lighting properly on my camera I had to leave for classes, as it was the coil at school... I got some good long exposures though ^_^\

EDIT: I left out the important part: the video of the tesla Coil striking a Propane filled balloon is pretty cool IMO

My girlfriend pointed it out to me last night, and while I missed most of the segment trying to get find the channel (I don't watch much tv...) I did see the clips that are online which are quite impressive! Although I agree, the majority of the show is, uh, well I guess that is why I don't watch much TV these days.

I wonder if we could get anywhere with one of these cameras Link2 would get us some decent videos of these effects. It wouldn't be HD quality, but 400fps at 224x168 color wouldn't be half bad (7 frames per a 60hz cycle)

I have one of Casio's High Speed camers, the EX-FH20 ^_^ - it has the same high speed specs as that one, but not that small O_o

I believe some other members here have either mine, or the next one up (which has a higher resolution in each video mode, and can go to 1200FPS)... I have tried sparks, but not very successfully - I mainly had issues with lighting, but that should be easy to get around but I neve had time due to school to set up the shot (which was AT school)
I think one of the members posted a GIF of the sparks, but I may be wrong...
