Hi all.
Just picked one of these up cheaply on Amazon (used- looks like someone bought it and then they released the Kindle2..)

Looks new, and works fine. Also has the advantage that it takes SD, and views PDFs directly.

Now I just need to upload my entire datasheet collection to it smile

Hey, let us know how the datasheet thing works out. If they're readable, and you can flip through the pages like a real book without any stupid cyber-gotchas, that would be plain awesome to have on your workbench.

Works fairly well, apart from that nasty button. I might add a magnetic "page turner" reed switch, minimal hacking required.
Another idea might be a small microphone, where one tap advances the page, two decreases etc. Oh, and add an accelerometer to automagically rotate the page.

Might also be possible to upload docs in realtime, using a modified SD card- that would be handy.

EDIT:-am hacking, but need to wait for camera to charge.
In the meantime, here are some wire to button codes, from left to right.

EDIT2:- Link2

so far, so good. had to modify the circuitry slightly as the 22k resistors to gnd caused too much stress on the 100 ohm resistors when wires were attached, so I removed them and added them externally.

Next step is to add an accelerometer or tap sensor and a PIC + JFET array to control the various buttons.

2,3 short = page fwd, 2,4 short = page back, 12,3 = vol up, 12,4=vol down, 12,10=function down

EDIT 2:- additional hack, add a contrast adjustment as it seems that the temperature sensor on my unit is faulty or badly calibrated due to severe ghosting. it did this from new but is particularly bad with a low battery.
