hey there :D
yesterday i finished my boost converter built from uzzors schematic. to test it i'm using a photoflash capacitor
i having some trouble with it: - i'm not hearing the whine that is noted in the description - i can't make i charge higher than 150V - i tried different inductors(i don't have an LC meter and i have no idea what range my inductors are in) with some, the MOSFET gets VERY hot before even reaching 50V, and with others it stays cool till it reaches 150V(after about a minute) and stops there
i'm pretty sure i'm using a powerfull enough powersupply, i tried: a bank of AA's, a bank of C's, my variable powersupply and a 12V transformer.

My stopped at 150 as well just after being finnished, and i posted a similar thread:
The problem in my case was the 10k & 12k resistors connected to pin 3 on the LM311. Originally I used one 22k resitor there but i then changed it for a variable one ranging from 0k-35k, which solved it for me.

i found the problem (well, one of them ) i checked my entire circuit(again) and found that i had put a wrong capacitor between the 555 and ground. i switched it and immediately heard a whine
now i just need to play with timing and inductors to make it charge faster

A question:
When my friend and I first built this circuit, we encountered the following problem. Note that we powered it with an Airsoft gun battery rated at 12V with a max current supply of 30A.
First, the circuit worked but only charged our caps to ~200V then shut off. This problem has been addressed numerous times on these boards (frequency/inductor mismatch).
But then, the oddest thing happened. The circuit began charging the capacitors, but when reaching around 200V it started making odd noises (the characteristic whine changing pitch). I shut it off because I didn't know what was going on and the components were getting hot. Upon trying a third time, the circuit immediately drew so much current from my battery that the input wires almost melted off. The MOSFET and 555 were cooked.
Any ideas? Everything was built to spec except for the inductor, which we pulled off of some junked circuit board. I'm trying a rebuild this weekend.
