Hello there, I have created this thread to showcase the remake of my DRSSTC. The basic design is the same but with many minor revisions, the only thing that didn't get changed was the bridge. As a result I was able to gain about 10" in arc length and I have an overall better device.
The basic driver circuit has not changed and can be found in the first thread>>
So it's a run of the mill DRSSTC, CM300 fullbridge fed by a doubler, 350nF tank cap, 6" X 23" acrylic secondary wound with 30AWG, toroid consists of 6" dryer duct with an additional piece of 7" stacked on top of that.
I did a few things differently with the actual construction that I think are note worthy. First is the MMC, you will notice that I used heavy duty aluminum bus bars. This makes it very easy to reconfigure the caps should I need to. Second, the driver uses 1/4" audio connectors that provide a certain level of modularity to the whole thing, if I ever feel the need to make another DRSSTC I can use the same driver. The outputs for the IGBT gate drive are wired in phase with each other, while the connectors that go to the IGBT's provide any necesary inversion. Meaning it's impossible to hook up the bridge backwards, or to where it would short the supply out. Third notable thing is the GDT, it's huge, 2.4" OD. The reason I went with such a large core is because I needed the space for my winding technique. I took 4 conductors from cat 5 cable, twisted them, and slid stainless baraid over it for very low leakage inductance.
The fourth picture from the bottom shows a strike at 70". After that I moved the coil to 65 for more repeatability, enjoy!

Nice results, how much power was it using? You really need a strike rail if you're going to push this coil any further.
One small tip try to use coax for the gate and ct wiring. Try to keep all wires as short as possible on your bridge to prevent voltage spikes from the added inductance.
This really makes me want to get my coil project going again to bad that I don't have the money atm :S

Thanks Dalus. I don't know about the power, 1KW more or less. I guess I should measure that next time I run it.
The high current paths are made from 21 gauge copper plate, I'm fairly confident I don't need to lower inductance any further. NOTE: This picture is from the first DRSSTC, but I used the same bridge. Also the film bypass caps were installed after the picture was taken.
Coax seems like it would be a pain, and I don't think it would make a noticeable difference.
