I believe a suitable replacement would be a D2Pak P-Channel Mosfet at around 50v+ and an I of 16a or greater. That's what the original fet's specs are. The data sheet of an equivelent N channel fet can be found here for reference:
I'm sure Steve probably has an exact part in mind, you'll have to wait for him to respond I think.

I use in a similar driver circuit the IRF540/9540 ones, and works perfectly... it sabout 100V 27A, a bit oversized for that settings but its relative cheap...

Sorry, i dont have a replacement spec'd yet. Those fets were picked out from the mouser site, mostly based on price. Just watch out for gate charge, blocking voltage, and Rds and make sure those specs are comparable to the part i chose. You could also go with a higher Rds (lower current rating) and get a faster switching time typically, you should change the N-channel part accordingly too. It seems to be a fairly forgiving circuit, you dont need perfectly matched P/N pairs or anything.

Hmm from the datasheet it looks okay, they only thing I notice is quite a bit higher fall time on it.. though I'm unsure if its enough to effect things.
