Tried that with distilled water and a rectified flyback. I succeeded in making just miniature bridges (about a mm or so), when I increased power the bridge started boiling, arcing and melted my plastic cups . I guess the water was not pure enough...

I think TDU has this on his site some where. Using a van de graff I have managed to get tap water to jump a few MM up from a small pool, perhaps you could do that with a CW multiplier or a beefy DC flyback.

I just tried this, very cool but such a mess with all the water running over the edge at startup, never got the thing to work with a piece of thread or hair.
