All,
Simple question: the HCNW2601 optocoupler comes in a so called widebody 400mill package, which allows it to bridge a 1414V gap, as opposed to 630V in the DIL/DIP package. I have been unable to locate a suitable socket for this type of package (widebody/400mill), perhaps because I use the wrong name in the search field.
I would appreciate a pointer to the right part, if possible.

Firstly, I don't like the idea of a single socket! You are introducing multiple potential flashover points when the pcb gets damp/experiences dew/contamination etc. Any moisture will creep along small gaps by capilary action.
Two separate sockets, one for each end, e.g. an 8-pin dil socket cut-up, would be better. You may even consider a slot in the pcb (very common in industrial electronics)
Remember, it's not ideal conditions that you need to design for, it's when things get dusty/damp/contaminated etc.
Having said that I must say that I've repaired MANY industrial pcbs with opto-isolators/couplers that have lost their 'Transfer Ratio', and none to my memory that have flashed over - designers usually give plenty space around opto's but often have pcb tracks that are too close and the actual pcb tracks!
If you don't want to cut a slot then the next best thing is Safety Earth traces on both sides of the pcb running between the high- and low-voltage sides.
Just thought I'd drop these thoughts before your design is finished.
