Hi all, newbie here.
I am hoping to build a VTTC (my first coil) and experiment with wireless power for a 12th grade physics project. I have a basic understanding of coils and I've seen some examples of VTTC's that run off a single MOT on youtube. So my first question is will it be fairly straightforward for an inexperienced coiler to build a coil for wireless power with a single MOT? And also how would I go about sourcing a good vacuum tube suitible for use with a small tesla coil?
Any help is greatly appreciated because im still not sure how feasible it will be for me to build one of these things in the time frame I have.

Hi mitch, here is an example of a VTTC that would be good for the transmitter in such a demonstration. It has a very large secondary and top load for its low power level and it wont produce sparks unless you put a break out point on the sphere. for the receiver you will need another secondary coil tuned to the transmitter frequency. I should point out here that the energy here is being transferred by the high frequency electric field and not radio waves.

That sure is a nice coil Roger! Have been hoping to start a VTTC this year with a beautiful 833 I picked up some time back, but there's always a another project in front of it.
Mitch, keep an eye on ebay for vacuum tubes, the ones you want are rare in Oz. I have bought tubes from Lithuania though with no problem. You might need to source the tube and capacitor from O/S. Here is a great resource for tubes. The search page is great.

Hi again Mitch, For what it's worth I made a little video of a wireless power demo. Some of the videos I've seen on You Tube ether don't give you any explanation of what they are showing or are totally bogus so I thought I would make my own. Enjoy!

As another note on the wireless power transmission of that tesla coil, at last years teslathon, Roger had a little demonstration on how things like lasers and metal halide lights etc.. can be lit wirelessley with it. Here is a pic of a laser ionizing from the energy of the tesla coil
