Yes from what iv heard lithium batteries like to explode at the first opertunity, so make sure they are encased in something (NOT AIRTIGHT)

well
it doesn't look like it can throw a tennis ball yet, but probably because of my primitive switch to the coil (the green screwdiver) - Link2
I hope the SCR will make things better (I didn't setup because it takes 1.5V and I don't have it yet)

I'll probably cut this screw in half too (and attach some non-metalic part to hit the ball) and I plan to use LM311 as suggested by Camel on the other thread

I'm using 2 680x200V (charging at 110V AC, so it goes up to around 160V) and a 16 AWG, 200 turns coil

Keep in mind that you lost a lot of energy in that shot because the coil itself jumped backwards on impact.
