Dalus goes looking for a crystal ball that might tell what you need. We can't give you any information without you first giving us a more detailed discription of the situation.
Your variac should be rated for a larger current then your DRSSTC requires simple.

Well if your sure you want to build this DRSSTC II then you should know what to buy. I'm not going to help you since I suspect that your not capable of building this coil and might even hurt yourself whilst trying.
Come back when you've done some more research and understand what you want and why you want it.
It's also common practice to make a post as complete as possible and check your spelling. Your not putting any effort in this and expect an complete answer from us.
um, okay.. im only asking cos in the book it says its 110v 10A so wanted to know if 240 needs the same amps and if anyone had something better i could use. ive pretty much finished building it just need to get this variac and a couple other bits

Well I can't look in you book since I don't have it myself. But guesstimating if it's build for 110Vac it runs a doubler to give the bridge a higher voltage. If you want to run it on 240Vac you'll need to remove this doubler.
You know the new voltage so do the math. Though going overkill on your variac is a good thing you'll always want more power untill something blows up

Seeing as the EV DRSSTCII runs on 110V, you'll probably find that some of the components will need to be changed for 240V. I think it's safe to say that you'll need at least a 5A rating on the variable transformer.

Best place to find good priced variacs are at ham fests. There were a bunch up at MIT's hamfest last weekend. $1 to 5$/Amp is a good estimate on a good day.
