That toroid with the (what is it, 8AWG?) magnet wire around it looks like a nice find. Were the sangamo caps salvaged?

That big old toroid came out of a UPS there were three of them but I gave two away. The sangamo caps are 3000V @ 8uF they came out of an old transmitter the transmitter also had a huge vacuum tube but at the time I did not think it would be of any use to me. Now I know what I could have done with it. sad

Whatcha mean how much have I salvaged?? Umm.. heh.. a garage full??

I have had so many parts over the years that I have had to throw away many, and even recently I have been throwing away parts because in 10 years, I still haven't used them. So short answer, too many. At this point im more at the "how much test equipment have you salvaged", but I do keep lots of parts on hand, caps, resistors, useful stuff, and in lots and lots of tackle boxes, and even more boxes in the garage. I have one box dedicated for small ferrites that I've salvaged even.

I think for a lot of us, and even look at the "show your lab" thread, the answer is quite literally .. A BEDROOM FULL of parts.

That is probably why he used the word "mostly" and not "only".

You mean within the past week right?
I have salvaged
1x rca 7102 photomultiplier tube
2x videocameras based on vidicons (basically a CRT run in reverse)
1x hadron model 100 thermopile (laser power meter)
1x zenith acousto-optic laser deflector d-70r (called an Acousto-optic modulator these days)
1x varian ion pump (capable of getting down to the 10^-11 torr of vacuum)
4x high vacuum swagelock valves (vco fittings)
1x thermocouple gauge readout
1x 3ft by 2ft by 1/8" sheet of aluminum (it has a lot of holes but there is still a square foot or so of usable stock left)
and its only wednesday afternoon!

Ah the joys of living at a university with a well stocked junktable...

good find on the ion pump (varian is a nice brand too). I have been looking for one....
Every single thing i have is salvaged, or obtained for free, except my soldering iron, breadboard, and 555's. That includes:
Test equipment:
1) 20mhz 2 ch. delay sweep scope
2)newport supermeter
3)regulated power supply, 0-30v, constant voltage or constant current. Setting resolution 1ma and 10mv
4)A 8mhz function generator (coming)
5) electro-pneumatic transducer
(all above new)
Other:
4000' 24 AWG magnet wire
40x 942C .56uf 1600v caps (not sampled)
4x 250A 1200v fast recovery diodes
3x 200A 1200v SCR's (all dead....)
most of the parts for the railgun
Lots of metal and wood from school

And a bunch of stuff not worth mentioning (normal electronic.hv stuff, flyback, MOT, diodes, resistors, etc.)
