I've used both brands, and both brands have a standard consumer grade and a more reliable enterprise/server grade hard drive. I've never had either grenade on me when using the one with the theoretically better MTBF and QC.
Are you concerned merely about storage space? I didn't see you list any other specifications like seek times, write times, etc. If storage, I would cough up the $40 and get the 250GB. You're getting triple the storage for double the price. If you got the 80GB and wanted to add more storage down the road (for the price, I'm assuming IDE), it might be difficult to find non SATA hard drives in the store a year or two from now. Depending on how your computer is configured, do you have a spare bay and an open IDE spot for a another drive?

Yes I have a very adaptable tower and mobo.
I am merely concerned with getting the best bang for my buck. I am pretty much set on the 250g now... it just sounds like a better deal... serial ata is faster... might as well go with it!

Be careful with some of the 7200.10 segate drives, there was a batch of them that had a tendency to overheat. I had some 300gb ones in my computer that lasted about a month before they would start to overheat, which ultimately lead to me putting them back on ebay for someone with a better cooled case and getting a 7200.11 drive. Just google the full part number and check for forum posts about overheating, its pretty obvious the ones that had issues and the ones that didn't.
