Removing capacitor from flyback

If it had a capacitor you could not make an arc, you would only get a series of LOUD individual sparks which couldn't be drawn any further than the igniting distance.

The charge "snapping" and "sizzling" away after power of is completely normal and is the result of the flyback's case getting electrostatically charged, and then slowly discharged after power off. The same thing happens when you turn off a TV.

The small spark is also normal, mine does that too and it doesn't have any inbuilt capacitor.

That is so strange. My first flyback did not do snapping and sizzling after power of. The spark was also bigger and sounded much better. But it was a verry small one. I coudn't stand the kV's.

I thought that this bigger flyback should work better. But the results are verry disapointing :( It consumes a lot of power and the output is not really big. I'm planning to do some more tests.

Your first flyback was of the old fashioned AC type where the secondary is a continuous wire.

Your new flyback is of the modern split secondary DC type, with diodes between each winding.

Yes, and this is why the old one does not "sizzle", because no charge acumulates on the nonconductive surfaces.

The DC ones don't like high output currents, they like high voltages. If you attemt to draw short fat arcs out of them, they'll overheat quickly and fry the diodes/windings.
