Thats what I was thinking when I read it, I don't know how you guys feel about it. I just feel that there are one or two people here (no, I'll not list the names here!), who are too young and inexperienced to add anything of value to the discussion and who would be much better of just passively reading the board. Maybe I am just too old and rigid to tollerate some vivid and fun discussions, but my impression of 4HV is that it tries to be more scientific and well-moderated than your average bulletin board. Yep, a few of my posts got deleted too, and usually I was happy they did. I am no angle, but I value some quality discussion. I think with the current ratio of moderators to users, it is easy to keep up the good standard. With many more users, especcialy ones who have not been on the old blue 4hv, there would have been a very real danger of quality going downhill. So, I guess what I am saying is: Chris Russell, good decision made at the right time. Kudos to the daddy of 4hv!

I'd rather have member 'trial periods' than a single interveiw and single moderator evaluation. We could have a the applicant join for ten posts, and evaluate wether he/she becomes a new member from that. There have been alot of people who sign up and never make it past their first post, and this system would eliminate them from the members list. Alot more can be said by someones posts than by their application. Just a thought.

And BlackPlasma, and a few others. Age is not relative to comman sense and just being plain smart and knowing what you are on about. How old was Steve Ward when he made his first SSTC? I agree with the screening process, or is this site capable of Polls?

I was 17 when i built my first SSTC, but started doing stuff a lot before that since my dad is an electrician. I guess it is true though that a lot of people come here just looking for answers to one question, and don't have any valuable input on anything else. I agree that there needs to be some sort of moderation- be it from a moderator or from say people with a full member status or better, or something to that effect.

The old forum was stable for many months on the application system. This one lasted much less without apps before asshats flooded in, that seems proof enough for me that applications are the way to go. Why reinvent the wheel?

The idea is good and it has been discussed but there is a problem. There are no resources available, the old application system broke down because there are not enough people willing to spend enough time on it. So we are looking for an automated system that makes sure that people read the rules and are capable of making an effort.
As said above, age is not a good measure. Neither is intelligence. Someone young and stupid can do a lot more for the 4HV Community than someone that is old, intelligent and an utter bastard. It is all about attitude.
