I did experiment with spin coating other surfaces with photoresist using a spare PSU fan motor.. worked fairly well.

Main issue is that the focus adjustment is incredibly finicky even with a good module. I along with the combined intellects of #hvcomm came up with a fix involving rotating or otherwise moving a suitably shaped large lens so that the laser beam intersects different areas to "fine tune" focus as required.

inspired by the mini lens/motor unit in the PS3 modules.
Also it is interesting to note that in theory you can use a motor with preset "beam plate" stencil rotating to one of n preset locations, reducing the time required to "scan" the board by generating existing common pin layouts, then completing the process by "linking point to point".

I stumbled across this method by shining UV LED light through a sheet of Veroboard, and the resulting PCB development had nice sharp edges.

This might also allow a UV LED array to be used instead of the expensive laser.

That is very cool!!!!

I love CNC machines myself. After college I plan to get one for any projects... Can you take picks of your CNC machine that has a Zeta plane?
I don't think I would want to build one though :P
It looks costly :o and mistakes = costlier.

Good day guys

some progress on the cnc. I've made all boards and put them in the box... weeeel you know how at one point the box just gets a bit to smaaaalll wink WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE hee hee. Connected everything and started testing. Some problems poped but will remove them and hopefully - first movement tomorrow or even tonight.

Good day guys

no idea about finishing it, because I have exams soon and not much time. But every spare time goes to it. I've finaly got it moving. Here is a video Link2 - I am driving it trough the keyboard. Still alot of tuning to be done and test a G-code on it. Also here is a pic how it all looks.

Cheers :)

Also if you haven't already, add a safety interlock to prevent laser running when the cover is open (or limit its power to safe levels). Its also possible to increase resolution by adding the zone plate from a PS3 module, and adding a second "prefocus" lens behind the main one.

Just a thought but my version is using the SLA7062M microstepping IC (fairly cheap, and the pcb is simple) ever heard of this IC?
