Hello everyone,

I recently had a 211 valve given to me by a friend, and he told me that I should use it for a VTTC.

Here's a link to a datasheet - http://www.triodeel.com/211_p1.gif

I can make almost anything that may be needed. Please let me know. I've done some research, and I've never even seen any pictures of a 211 being used in a VTTC.

Thank you for your time. Any suggestions are welcome.

Use it in the basic armstrong class c oscillator that is commonly used for vttcs.

With a mot controlled by a variac it should be no problem pushing this tube to its limits and beyond :)

I don't want to be too reckless. How far beyond its ratings should I be able to push it, and with what kind of cooling?

The good thing about tubes is that you can experiment, adjust feedback, voltage, gridleak etc without riscing anything happening to your tube, as long as you watch it and turn it off if it gets red plates.

Force aircooling from a fan from a computer should be sufficient.

Great....I just remembered. My variac died about three weeks ago. I have nothing to vary ANYTHING with....

Thanks for the help. I guess that means that I won't be able to make a VTTC, now, and this beautiful tube will go back on the shelf for a little while. It sucks being fifteen years old...

Thank you.

211s are popular with high-end audio enthusiasts. If it's an American original, not a Chinese copy, you should probably sell it on Ebay and use the money to buy a variac and an 833.

It says that it's made by GE and the emblem looks perfect, other than the fact that the paint is wearing off on the base.

Edit:

How much money do you think I can get for the tube?

Looking at some finished auctions on eBay, it seems that 211s with known good filament, otherwise untested usually go for between 100 and 300 USD. That sort of money should at least get you a much more suitable tube for VTTC use.

Whaddya know! I've a tube known to be a VT4C on display in my living room. As I thought it looked familiar I took a closer look and it turned out to be a 211 instead! Complete with socket. I'm at a loss as why people would use it as an audio tube, this one is ex-equipment (army transmitter) but it sure looks cool!

Edit: Its equivalent type code is VT4C. The base sez: JUN1942 cheesey

That`s just because you have not heard a nice, well designed, single ended 211 amp. smile
I heard the Ongaku back some 12 years ago, and it was awesome!
So sure, follow Steve's advice and sell the tubes.

Cheers, Finn Hammer
