it is on a classified site, he has three of em, and there are from 1993 so they are old school lol well i am not sure but i think i need 2 so i can get 8 kv and change it to DC for a higher voltage, i am in las vegas as well but this is some guy in penn so shippping will likely be a nightmare, hope not too bad though

well if you are determined you will need a power service of about 100 amps at 220vac. the output of your transformers would be 2.5 amps at 8kv. you will need some kind if current limit or you will draw infinit current when they are arced because they are not current limitted like NST. there is a nuff power there to make a tesla that makes 30 foot sparks or a 5ft. jacobs lader. the fraight charges probly be around 200-300$. good luck and be safe

Well it sounds like your going to have the potential for one huge coil. I cant wait to see the results.

Umm, that's not old school mate, hahahaha thats well within a recallable timeline.

Honestly mate, I think you should concentrate on precision and quality of work, not trying to get the largest power you possibly can.

I would hazard a guess that this course of action, in seeking ludicrous power levels will at best end in a big ball of flames and at worst end up with you dead.

Also, with that high of a current and (fairly) low voltage, you are probably going to have trouble with the spark gap- what are your plans for this?

i am not going to be running these at their full power right away, i am going to run them at 3-5 kva as i only have 50A 250V service, and i am planning a srsg for the spark gap EDY i was just bein silly bout the old school thing lol if shipping is less than or $200 i will be just fine because at the time i have 300 dollars.

Here's a few things to think about-

Do you know a freight company who will deliver them?
Do you know how much it will cost to ship 500lbs of iron right across the states?
Do you have handling equipment to move them at your end?
Do you have a garage or yard to do the experiment?
Do you have a suitable power supply (one poster mentioned 100A at 240V)
Do you have cables, connectors and breakers that can stand the current?
Do you understand ballasting, circuit breaker selection, fault levels, etc?

If you answered NO to any of the above, just get a couple of MOTs like the rest of us. :P I agree with other posters who said that a setup like this needs a lot of planning to get it working, and is too dangerous for a newbie (who spelt transformer wrong in the thread title)

i did it really quick and right before i was about to go to sleep :P sorry i spelled it wrong, also, i do understand all of these aspects but i need to get a suitable ballast and i am searching for a freight company as well, also it is 360 pounds not 500, lol just got to put a smart alek remark in there it will still be a night mare as well though, and if the price is too high for his shipping methods, then i know of a freight company that is quite cheap here in town so i will just need to arrange for a pick up time and date with this fellow. i plan on running this outdoors,(for potential of HUGE streamers!!! i have 240 volt 40 amp breaker, so this should run good at 30 amps without too many problems, if i use an arc welder as a ballast, will it fry any part of the welder? (im worried mostly about the diodes of the DC mode)
