Hello again,
Just got this thing put together on a little pcb, and now I'm looking to optimize it.
When doing some tests the other day, the fact that it puts out more than the required voltage became obvious. Because my multimeter has about 1/2second of lag, I ended up charging a 312J rated cap to around 350 joules accidentally.
To avoid this, I intend to remove turns from the secondary until the voltage is limited to around 400v . My question is, would this be likely to affect the power output(and by extension, charging time), or should it always stay around the same? Logically I'd think the lower resistance would help...
Right now my core is gapped slightly with some electrical tape and the entire circuit runs quite cool.
I'm using .02" wire for the secondary, and .035 for the primary. Would thicker wire yield any noticeable benefit to power output?
