The Peltier trap I have half built, is just a two peltier stack. The hot side is to be cooled with tap water,and the cold side will be insulated from the room with expanded polystyrene. It would be nice to have the peltier under vacuum, that way it would reduce the load on the stack, but I'm just building the thing out of what I have, since I have no access to a machine shop, Although LN2 temps are not attainable this way, it should do a reasonable job of condensing oil vapor.
I saw a patent a while ago, for a diffusion pump, where the top baffle was cooled by a single Peltier cooler under vacuum. The claim made in the patent was that this pump had negligible backstreaming, and was suited for ultraclean vacuum work.
