Hi all, i was floating around some Tesla Coil websites last night and came across this site.
Now my question is, Could you make a flat secondary like the images on that site? I have seen flat primary coils, even square secondary coils that go up and down. But i have never hear or seen anything like this.
I may start working on this at some point, unless you guys tell me is completely unfeasible.

Well, just be careful with that site. The whole website is based on Aether Theory, which was debunked in the late 19th or early 20th century depending on who you ask. In other words, the site's writer is a pseudoscientist, so be picky about just how much of his writing you believe. However, I would be interested in a flat-wound Tesla coil secondary, even if most of the site's experiments are garbage.

There are many photographs of Tesla sitting in his chair reading with a flat primary/secondary coil behind him, so they do exist and he did play with them.
One thing you ought to bare in mind is that the arrangement is satisfying very high coupling at the cost of voltage standoff. E.G. you may be able to implement a step-up HF transformer, but the isolation voltage will be very low so expect a lot of arcing.

It doesn't seem to be a very efficient system as Kilovolt said. But i would still like to do one. Would bring me up to 3 TC's. Plus something that small would be kinda cool looking :P
