100kv rated capacitors from maxwell only work to 60kV in air, at sea level. Any higher requires that to be in oil. It is a lot of energy, but getting a 100kV source that can charge that would be a whole project in its self.

Ah if only I had something to charge those with... And was incredibly wealthy.

The problem with caps like this is that you can't just throw them into the circuit and have them work. You need to worry about slow death from voltage reversal, instant destruction from overly high peak currents, and the fact that they may have already used it to the end of its operational life in the last application. Of course, that's not to say that I wouldn't buy all of them if I had the chance.

A huge CW multipler for charging also comes to mind...

So does the idea of making a 1.8MV Marx gen :D

Or even running the caps at half their rated voltage and having a safe 67kJ bank.
