Conficker C is apparently a virus that infects computers. When the creator wants to, it allows them to take complete control of infected computers. They think it will happen on April first. Thoughts?

It is a very real and significant threat, and its got the IT community sweating to subvert it.
If you haven't got antivirus software, you should get it, and if you haven't updated it in a while, you need to. In addition, if you have antivirus, you need to try running a scan and ensure it hasn't been disabled, as this worm is capable of rendering it inoperable.
Microsoft has a free system scan if you don't have decent antivirus software or if you're just paranoid.
Most experts are confident it will turn out to be a massive botnet when it executes its payload on the 1st, but there is very real potential for it to be much more sinister.

As far as I know, yes. It is only affecting windows systems at this point. That doesn't mean you should skip on the antivirus software on linux though. Plenty of other nasty bugs running around.

I guess I get to see if McAfee is worth a #$%^ then.
I've been running Norton for years and McAfee for a couple of years now and I think for the most part they are worthless/useless. PC Tools Spyware Doctor was able to remove/find things that Norton didn't see, unfortunately their website sucks now and I can't really download a working copy, so its not much better then the other two.

I had a nasty virus just recently and after all I read on the forums, Avast seemed like the only one picking it up. I highly recommend it, it updates automatically everyday and is a real time scanner. Oh...and it's free.

Avast and Avira both two free and good anti virus programs.
For linux I would not worry, there are a few viruses made for linux, but so few, I only use a virus protection on linux to protect for potential spreading to a windows computer.

Really? I have had good luck with norton (its on my sisters laptop and dads laptop), it was on my computer before i switched. I would only get viruses when it expired.
If conficker only supposed to run on april 1st, or start running april first?
