This is a small TC I made in a few hours on a sunday afternoon. I all started with the toriod I made from the bottoms of two pop cans I cut apart and stuck together. After that I had to make a coil for it!
Some of the specs:
Primary, 6 turns of #16 on a 4" pvc form Secondary, Aprox 800 turns of very fine wire from a bath fan motor on a 2" x 3" form. Tank cap, One 20Kv 1400pF ceramic doorknob capacitor Power supply, 6Kv 30mA NST Torroid, Two pop can bottoms put together and pollished.
The secondary has quite a few coats of polyurathane but still throws off corona around the top windings, and even gets the odd primary strike. To finish the ends of the secondary I plugged the end with a piece of plastic about 1/2" in and attach a nut and bolt to the wire and then fill in the end with epoxy. This makes a strong connecting point for small coils.

wow that coil is awesome Although from what i understand your sparks are usually supposed to be longer than the transformer is But considering how high of a frequiency your are running for such a crappy spark gap that isnt half bad!
I really like your torroid, although judgingby your issues with corona at the top it isn't working to great. But hey if it works it works
