I picked up a chunk of SG coil stuff from "Alex" recently. I played around with the parts over the weekend and there are 18 good caps and 2 that are somewhat toasted by arcing between them self. They still measure 0.1uF so they might be ok. I plan to buld a classic 15kV 60mA coil using ths stuff.
Assuming 60mA into 0.1uF over a quarter period gives me 2500 V so I figure I need to have at least two in paralell.
Charging for 1/240s now gives 12500V over the caps.
Is this a reasonable design? I was hoping that I could get away without a Terry Filter if I keep the cap larger than resonant and put the safety gap at 1300kV.
I could off cource add some caps if someone would be willing to sell me a few. Minimum order at Newark is not within reach.
Please let me knwo what you think and please send me a PM if you have some caps to sell me.

These are 2000V capacitors, the NST is rated at 15 000V, your cap bank should be rated for 2X the input voltage. Resonant frequency cap value for your NST will be 10.6nF, larger than resonant (LTR) will be about 15nF. You could use two strings of 14 caps to give you 14nF, rated for 28kV. Spark gap should be set to 15kV or less.

Thanks,
That suggestion is well in line with the established designs. I will have to find some additional caps to go down that path. An other option for now could be to simply crank down the voltage. IAre the NST's delivering rated current even if I feed it with say 70V?
