I'm the new guy here so I thought I would introduce myself and share a project at the same time.
My Name is Jason and I am from New York. It's nice to meet a group of people with similar interests! I have been into electronics and computers for most of my life. I hope to build a SSTC this summer.
Here is my first SGTC I built (now almost 10 years ago!)
It is powered via a 15Kv 60mA NST. The Secondary is 10" diameter and approx 1900 turns. The capacitor was homemade constructed out of rolled poly sheeting and aluminum flashing in a mineral oil bath... Unfortunately the capacitor only lasted for a few minutes of runtime before it suffered from internal flash-over. I may build a MMC and try to resurrect this coil!

Jason, you either need to make that primary coil really conical, or raise your secondary up quite a bit, or do both. Otherwise your secondary will arc to your primary almost immediately.
