gdt driver burning out

I have a circuit modeled after steve ward's mini sstc and I have a problem with the ucc3732x circuit. I have 1 and 8connected to 12v and 4 and 5 to gnd, and 6 and 7 to my transformers, along with the capacitors. The secondaries are open and I have no signal to 2 or 3, but when I apply power they burn out. I have no clue what the problem is. Thanks.

You will have to drive them with a load, have your GDT connected to both the UCCs and FETs, and the fets needs to be installed in their bridge too.

If you run the UCCs unloaded they will become small volcano's instead, I wasted 4 of them before I learned this. :)

I have my GDT connected the UCC's and FETS, and the FETS are installed in the bridge, and I still burnt the secondary on the GDT when I applied power to the bridge.

naah, believe me or not I used a GDT as a signal xformer in the older versions of my coil, meaning it was driven by two UCCs and kept sending signals to the bridge drivers and remained relatively loadless - still nothing ever blew.

If there is no input applied I guess the drive entered a self-ocillation somehow, ground pins 2 for sure.

All I did was connect 1 and 8 to 12v and 4 and 5 to gnd... The weird thing is that one day it was fine, then when I staced ICs in parallel it went wacky and ended in catastrphic failure. I had the output clamped to 12v and gnd with antiparallel diodes- and I think they might have been destroyed (before I destroyed them removing them)... Could these be a problem?
