How do I make a 47 to 200uH coil for the Mazzilli flyback driver?

For the dc inductor it's only the minimum requirement,
generally more inductance is better,
provided core saturation is not a problem.

For initial testing a reel of suitably thick wire works well,
if you have a ferrite rod you can use that
- it's quite difficult to saturate a ferrite rod with dc.

I have 88 turns on a T400-26 which is about 1 mH that I use for various tests.
Obvious overkill for incorporating into small projects,
but since I have it I use it for tests etc.

There has been a discussion about saturation of the core, and the conclusion I got from it was that if the inductance is large, such as the inductor wound on a high-permeability non-gapped core, the saturation does not actually matter and won't cause much current ripple.

I have also observed this in practice, non-gapped ferrite core even seemed to improve performance over a gapped or powdered core (the arcs did not "scream" as much)

It all does not seem to work

I had used my car battery as a power source.
I had a 0.3 ohm safety resistor that was a piece of steel wire and had melted in a second.

It smelled too bad for just plain steel.
Could the lack of output fry the MOSFETS?
One was warm after the test.
(it was dark outside)
No spark came out of the other end.

I made 5+5 turns on the ferrite core of my flyback.

The only problem was that i did it only on one side of the split. That was the only part exposed.
I don't know anything about the parts I had used. I just bought them as they were mentioned.
IRF mosfets, 12vzenders, resistors, diodes, capacitor
all from electronics goldmine website

Everything except the 47ohm resistors, the coil , the flyback.

I also double-checked everything.

So what can I do?

I had never seen flyback transformers that have exposed cores.

What power supply to use?
There are no power supplies that can give out more than 10A in my house.

I also don't know if it was OK that I had attached a HV ground wire to only one ground terminal. (this transformer has 3 ground terminals)

Can I use the existing primary winding?

Is there a way to test the MOSFETS for frying/working ?

Hey man I got one of those similar capacitors also :P (rectangle brown) except mines a 1250V 0.01uf that I've scrapped out of a paper shredder.

Would it make a difference if I run a ZVS on 19.5V 4.62A vs running that on 555? I can get a tad over 1 inch with it.. Would more if my switch transformer didn't shutoff at the good frequency :(
