the camera inverter seems the best source of high voltage, whilst maintaining low price and small size, at present i can draw roughly 6mm arks from a single camera transformer and a 5 stage villard cascade, all of this fits easily inside a photo film tub (5cm-ish high with 3cm-ish diameter) this could be reduced further if i had some reasonable way of isulating the components (my first attempt resulted in numerous arc-overs). whilst im here actualy, what would be a good diy potting agent (isulation) for these home made hv supplies

They will sell single pieces as samples. They're not expensive either. Also, they are not transformers, they are power supplies.
