I notice that a lot of people are using plexiglass or acrylic to mount everything on. Has anybody found a cheap source of this stuff? I would really like to find some business that could just give me some scraps. Does anybody have any suggestions?

It depends on how thick you want it and if you want different shapes of it. Home depot has sheets of it up to .250". I don't really see the advantage of using Plexi glass though. I had an all plexi computer case about 7 years ago and ever since then I've not really liked it much.

Yeah pvc is boring but it works and its cheap and readily available. PLexi is good for some things yeah like primary supports and MMC holders. My old computer case would get all dusty and full of crap and if it gets scratched its hard to fix. I ended up frosting my plexi computer case with sand paper so it was translucent but not transparent kinda like a shower door. It was pretty cool looking in the end and became a plexi aluminum bar hybrid.
I prefer wood now. There's so many things you can do with it and so many varieties. Just my opinion really I like retro styles and industrial beefy look for my projects. I like to experiment with different materials and find non standard uses for them. Other times it pure function and looks don't matter.

Yeah, I just want something that looks cool and makes a good dielectric. The problem I have with using wood is sealing it from moisture so I don't lose anything. I live in an apartment so if I coat it with something, I don't have a good place to let it dry without losing some brain cells to the fumes.

I use nothing but wood. It actually looks good sometimes, as you can stain and then polyurethane, for a shiny yet rustic look. Building materials that looks old is nice to put high tech projects in, i think.
Plexi does still look better most of the time IMO, depending on the electronics inside.
