Hi all.
Asn an experiment I obtained a newly dead lightstick and tried adding chemicals to it to see what happened. Interestingly, acetone caused the fluid to emit yellow light again, but adding surgical spirit caused it to go out, and IPA did nothing.

If I am not mistaken, Acetone is a known reactant with the ingredients of Glow Sticks, but the reason why it is "re-lighting" in this case may be due to the substitute for Acetone in glow sticks, assuming they due not actually use it, may be the Limiting Reactant, meaning that it is the ingredient, which the chemical process relies on, which runs out before any of the others do... so, assuming this were the case, if more were added the chemical process could resume as normal...
as for the addition of a surgical spirit, a number of things could have occurred (but I am not informed enough in these reactions to know what exactly, but these thoughts might get you started, or be further explained etc by another member): the spirit could have acted as a catalyst for the reaction, or even as an alternative, and faster reacting, ingredient itself therefore making the process use its ingredients up faster, it could be an inhibitor to the chemical process (chemistry, naturally, tries to make the bonds that require the least Energy to make and therefore, some chemicals that normally bind to one another might instead bind to a third chemical since the reaction involved required less energy, or more stability in Electron Orbitals is gained... such an example can be seen in various double displacement reactions)... these are just thoughts, but definitely worth looking further into
