The completion date for any project is fuzzy by nature, but I hope to have the new design together by the March break.
Optimizing ablated mass is not a field I've looked into much yet. One does, of course, want to make sure that the plasma contacts as much of the propellant as possible. I imagine that the plasma energy increases, to a point, with increasing length and decreasing diameter of the capillary tube, but that is at best a rough guess.
What is more important is to optimize the propellant mass for the available plasma energy and the desired sound speed of the resulting gas.
The capillary tubes are cut from plastic rod, faced, and drilled to the right diameter. Making them in any dimensions required is quite simple by this process.

The March break has come and gone, but my energies have been directed elsewhere recently. More involved testing in January showed a serious flaw which would have prevented the old design from ever being scaled up. Not wanting to waste time on it any longer, I tried to come up with a new design which would circumvent the problem (plasma leaking through the slip fits), or at least reduce it so that it wouldn't destroy structural components. I believe I have succeeded in that. I'll post the new design and an explanation this weekend, and will hopefully have it ready for testing in a few weeks. The internal ballistics should remain unchanged, but with a much more robust structure.
If anyone thinks they are capable of building a functioning wire-break chrony which suitable for this application, please contact me via PM. It's definitely time for me to obtain more accurate instrumentation.

there are other ways to trigger an etg, for my etgs i use a "trigatron in barrel" like trigersystem, which makes high efficient, low cost switching possible and fast reloading. you can run it as pur plasma or you are able to evaporate aluminion or any other propellant. its build like a wig-welding system as you can see in the schematic below. just keep the induction of the pulstransfromer's secondary as low as possible. (schematic comments on german, sry) with this system you are able to build etgs with low input power and high efficient, most of mine are under 500j here are some results of my soon coming 300j etg rifle using this system :
its also very easy to build repeating barrels ( one of mine, with suppressor, all done by myself ) and an other one : also visit my youtube channel, to see some of these babys in action :
hope i could bring you on some new ideas and excuse my bad english
