Here it goes. I have a cap bank of two 400v 2200uf caps that are at the moment in series. I have been using a flyback for charging, but anything after 200v is painfully slow so I need a bit more amperage. Keeping in mind that I'm broke, whats my best option for a PSU capable of 800-100 volts with a respectable current output. I've been told a CW would work well, but with 120v mains and whatnot it doesn't seem like the caps would be ... affordable given my budget. Rewound transformer? Not to comfortable around mains nor am I up on the behavior of transformers... Maybe someone can point me in the "friendliest" direction, if they would be so kind.

Microwave owen transformer?
Yes, i used a microwave transformer for my two 400v 3900uf capacitors that where at the moment in series. I used about 80 volts input from a power transformer, so the current was limited so it would not charge so fast i couldn't stop it in time.

That's odd, cause I used photoflash caps, 5 stages I think, and only got ~350 volts. I thought I killed the later stages because they were reverse conducting... Also, I have seen very few schematics for CW's using polar caps.

They do use polar caps, that is the whole theory behind it. Those are just general layout's, not actual schematics. If you only get 350volts, that means that everything past the second stage is not working properly. Check capacitor's and diodes. Keep in mind these have a huge current inrush. When i fire up a tripler, the lights in the room dim for about a second. Diodes actually have to be pretty beefy, so check those first. I have had TO-220 diodes burn.

I was told that standard 1N4007s would do just fine because its running at 60hz... also, I simulated it and it doesn't seem to reverse conduct, So it seems 'lytics should work just fine, just have to see where I went wrong and hope it didn't kill everything.
