I was looking at 2 variacs on Vetcosurplus.com. A 10A 0-130VAC for $193 and a 20A 0-130VAC for $222. Dan said that a 10A could be run no problem at 20A for a few min. Would there be any benefits of getting the 20A since this is the case? I know nothing about the manufacturer or model of the variac. Hoping i could get some input before i buy.

Sounds pretty expensive, but if you want to buy at this place, the price difference is so small I would go for the 20A.

Just consider that the inrush current of bigger variacs may trip your breakers.

Else compare it with what service you have available at your house, and what you expect to be varying in your projects.

Ditto on the expensive. I just picked up a 10A 140V for 60 bucks on ebay. If you're dead set on buying from that place I'd definitely spend the extra 25 bucks on the 20amp.

I have the exact same one, the 20 amp version. Got mine from eBay. Had it for 3 years now. Switch doesn't work and Ive fried the outlet and replaced that. Still works great though and that's a good price. I haven't seen any cheaper than that.

I bought a 12A 230V at 100$, and a 8A 230V in a casing with meters also 100$, bought from private sellers in denmark, where I also live, just a price comparison.

You do not look like a Paul with that username? :D

Unfortunately I did not get the 30 with screw bases :/

But I also bought 3 others of his "buy now" auctions, hopefully to make some money in Denmark :)

Forgive me, Madskaizer, , I didn't mean to sound like the mystery man! smile I bought three fresh cases each of 3300uF/450V, 4100uF/400V and 15000uF/200V from Paul and your unusual name came up quite by chance! Small world! cheesey

I have been looking for some 90mm capacitor clamps for the 15000uF/200V, but so far without success. If you happen to hear of any clamps in these very large sizes would you kindly send me a private message?

Thank you,

Harry, (my forum username alias)
