I say what I used in my laboratory.
To land my coils and some experiments that require the equipment is grounded, then put in my yard around a 2.40M copper bar grounding, works very well for what I need...

Well, you should pound something thick and long into the ground, like a metal pipe or something. Then use something very low resistance that connects tesla coil to the spike. What i did with my sstc is put it on the mains earth ground(the third prong). But this could mess up other grounded things and do other bad things.

i have broken two mosfet's by connecting secondary ground to main ground, and connecting secondary ground to earth pin or common ground in house. well ill try to hammer a thing (of course of a metal) in to the ground, any idea how deep? since i am just 2 meter's away from my backyard i maybe could do this. one more thing my Tesla doesn't like to spark to my ground (of secondary) butt it does to my finger?

i have the sstc running with a ne555 at the moment (i hope to make a better driver soon) butt when f I get near my ic to adjust my frequency the spark goes harder or become smaller, why is this?

Because you change the resonant frequency of the tesla coil secondary when you get near it, pulling it into or out of tune. This is why most people use feedback on SSTCs.

I normally drive a piece of copper pipe into the ground but it's frozen right now so I think I'm gonna try grounding my secondary to the dumpster outside my apartment building.

I always use two grounds for my larger coils. One RF ground four one meter long pipes in the ground. This RF ground is coupled via a HF pass to the mains ground. Yes I like to be sure of a good ground
