Please note, only 12V 400MA MILIAMPS (sucks) power supply!

Materials Used:
Transformer 1 - Lionel Train Transformer (HO-Scale)
Transformer 2 - Car Ignition Coil
Switching------ - MOSFET IRSP1280 (until I install the new 2N3055)
Power 555----- - 9V battery
Ladder Material - 2 Vault soda cans, Cardboard (tilt), CD case (no reason.. desk is glass anyways)
Filter Capacitor - Photoflash 330V 140uf

I'm sorry for the start. When you first start it, it's out of tune. Once dimmed, and re-loaded to the same tune, it works fine. (no middle helper wire)

Please note this is a mini test. I'm hoping to get a BETTER power supply so i can do a Large ladder :) Beginner here xD

Not bad. It beats the first JL I made. I used a crappy 3kv 10ma NST and got awesome 4mm arcs.

Why change the mosfet out with a crappy transistor? That mosfet you have is pretty powerful, MUCH more so than a 2n3055. Also, mosfets heat less than that transistor i am sure, and the 2n3055 probably blows more often.

Is true but with my supply, nothing gets warm. not even the 2N3055. My can ladder now is like 3mm to 6mm gap comparing to what it use to be. For no reason i added a home-made inductor (many layers on a 4X1 inch PVC pipe) and it just smooths the arcs.

Planning for DC conversion latetr

Where did you put the inductor?.. In the HV output?
I know that sometimes inductors are used with arc
welders to produce some desirable results related to
the arc.

Your home-made inductor is probably just doing what an inductor does, let the DC pass but the AC is held back. From your other posts you seem to have realized that a rectifier is better. What kind of frequencies are you driving your coil at, and its it square-wave or snubbed?

I'm just doing your average 555 driven circuit. I cant guarantee you on the frequency, but I know my pots are set near minimum, so with a calculator it might be around maybe 1.6 Kilohertz. guessing that the resistors are around 3 Kohms and a 0.1 uf cap on pin 2 to ground.

As for the pre-made coil, I just took 1 inch diameter PVC, 4 inches long, and coiled the whole thing with 24 gauge magnet wire. I noticed when I arch it from the coil to a piece of metal, after 20 seconds it was HOT to the touch. The coil is being run from the HV---Coil--Ark--Ground

(The hot metal occurred when I put a magnet in the middle of the homebrew induction coil.
