bootable programming...

Ok, so I have been looking into making a small, bootable program, and found a lot of tutorials and information that has helped a lot, but I need some clarification on the use of C code in a kernel, along with memory management..
the main clarification I need is the use of operations such as plus, minus, multiplication, and division (the goal is to calculate Pi to a certain, FINITE resolution given by the user, in the form of a fraction preferably): can I have these operations as I normally might in C code?

the pseudo-code used to calculate pi is like this:

resolution = (a/b)
X = 0
C = 0
D = 0

if ((a/b) > 0.5)

then
print error

else

D = (square root ((resolution^2) + (((square root(1 - X^2)) - ((square root(1 - (X + Resolution)^2))^2)
C = (C + D)
X = (X + Resolution)


Then the process repeats until X = 1, after which it will print 2*C as the final result...
