On the same note, stacks of 9V batteries have been known to work well under low current loads, although if you are crazy enough to draw arcs with them, batteries typically start to explode.

Buy 400 CR123 cells and series them, then draw arcs with that
According to someone on CPF, you can pull 'teens' of amps from one in a short, which indeed seems reasonable.
I'm sure that would make for fun arc pulling.
3.6V/cellx400cellx10A = 14.4 KW Though I'm sure the voltage would sag horribly, and I'm sure shorting/loading 400 lithium batteries in a confined space probably couldnt end well...

Bad, BAD idea. CR123s (the sort used in some compact LED torches) can and will explode if overheated/etc. Oh, and the fumes can contain HF gas which is about as toxic as you can get.
Probably safer to series button cells, or just use 10 of the Ultralife ones I found on Ebay. (98V off load)

I knew they werent too stable, hence what I posted at the end. Also the rest of the thread of that post I linked is actually about CR123 batteries blowing up. But I didnt know they emitted HF when they went up, I thought the usual hydrogen was bad enough as it is. I didnt actually expect the OP to spend $1-5+ each for 400 cells and put them in a 13 meter long stack (34.5mm each)
For that price I'm sure a NST would be much more fun :)
