I want to upgrade or completly redesign this so that I can use a supercapacitor(22F 2.3v) and have a continuous 2v out. I also want it to be over 80% efficient. Im not asking anyone to design it for me but, to point me in the right direction. My idea is to use a plan old buck boost converter with a 2.2v zener to regulate the voltage. The problem is ive never made a buck boost and got anywhere near the voltage or current that I planned for

I may have answered my own question. Using multisim and adding a capacitor im getting 100s of volts with a peak of 1.087Kv. Is this an error? Is the result even remotly possible? The circuit is similar to the one in the link fernagzan posted. The circuit with the capacitor. Its a little different but, if anyone is interested I can email them the schematic

i designed a similar circuit that is an hybrid between blocking and two transistor oscillator and it can power a white led efficiently with voltages as low as 0.3( designed to operate on PEM fuel cells)

I spent almost an entire day playing with this circuit once. Almost any small ferrite transformer with two windings on it will work. You can even use mosfets but the circuit wouldn't oscillate until about 4 volts input. You can rectify the output and add a cap and power digital ic's with it too. its not very powerful though.

The single schmitt inverter is a tad difficult to get, though. Consider a CMOS 555.

I have discovered a very interesting circuit:

Figure 1 on page 88 (the 2nd page). It is a self-oscillating two transistor flip-flop boost converter with only one inductor (no transformers). It is able to deliver nearly constant current independent of battery voltage. I'll try to mod it for two cell operation.
