For fear of being branded with a cognitive bias, I hesitated to reply to this thread.

Fairly enlightening articles, for someone who initially didn't know what you were talking about, and for objective definitions of types of arguments (and types of false non-arguments), I found the articles quite fascinating. Go Wiki. =)

Just look at my change of social status in this forum since coming out as a transsexual - and being interrogated over whether I was autistic or not - with vultures all over the net trying to pick up items of salacious gossip about me which they could retail to others.

Much as I dislike the implications of Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, I wish I had not over-estimated the apparent tolerance of minorities on the web today. Clinton perhaps thought of this policy in the context of what he knew about his own kind - a culture where torture has been normalized - and therefore considered it the least inhumane of alternative attitudes. But who can say?

*sigh* Is this really your point of view after the outcry of support?

But nothing has been done! Those who went out of their way to 'expose' the fact of my autism (gleaned from their searches of other sites) in order to discredit me are still here in high office! How can we hope to progress when evil is seen to prosper, and the good trampled under foot?

The fish is rotting from the head!

Look, Stella, Harry, I'm sure you are familiar as well as I am, with saying things we later regret. It happens in life when we feel our point has not gotten across, and we need to force an understanding. Unfortunately we are the ones who lose when we put our foot in our mouth.

Now I'm not saying you should agree with a status quo, or that this is the right venue to be voicing dissent. After all, anything other then a community persuit of related Sciences is inappropriate, that is the status quo, Science.

I can't bring up my opinion of the President, Global Warming, I shouldn't talk about what I'm going through emotionally with my Lay-off, which is really upsetting, Losing my dream job playing with satellites.

What I'm getting at here Stella is that there are people here who do support you and that is as much as you can ask for and receive. If that is not enough, then I'm sorry, that's as much as can be done.

Aside from that, you are making accusations against a few in charge of this forum, in a way asking others to support a crusade against the accused. In doing this, the ultimate result is banning you from the forum, because they're incharge and you're accusing them.

The way I see things is that:
1. People would like you to be here
2. If you accuse your boss of something, sooner or later you're going to be asked to leave.

I really think that, since people value your presence and input, you let whatever is bothering you go and let's talk about science and improve the site.

Matt

Stella,

I really hate to see this coming up again and again. I do not enjoy having to tirelessly defend 4hv.org from unfounded, untrue accusations of intolerance, harassment, corruption, conspiracy, and so on.

One person ran a Google search on your name and location, and disclosed the results, privately, to you, asking if it might explain some of your changes in behavior. This was in no way, shape, or form an attack on you, an attempt to discredit you, or anything of the sort. There is no "them" that seeks do harm your reputation or make you feel unwelcome. To the best of my knowledge nobody has said or done anything against you at all, other than to suggest that you drop the matter now that it's out in the open, since gender identity issues are not really the main focus of the site. It's true, too -- you'll notice that unlike a lot of other forums, we don't have endless threads like "check out my girlfriend" or "political viewpoint x is superior because y." Because we're such a diverse group with many differing backgrounds and viewpoints, we generally check things like that at the door, or gripe about them briefly in a thread and move on. Interpret that as "don't ask, don't tell" if you like, but it is by no means limited only to you or situations like yours.

Indeed, many people have gone out of their way to express their unwavering support in light of your announcement. The community has made it clear that you are more than tolerated: you are welcome, and would be missed sorely. I've also made it clear that while I cannot require everyone on the forum to hold a specific set of morals, that any attack or harassment aimed at you would result in instant and harsh administrative action.

I find it immensely sad that, in spite of all the support and kindness this community holds for you, you appear to be bent on lashing out against some sort of a conspiracy or bias against you that just doesn't exist. Actions such as these will, eventually, erode the great amounts of support you have earned over your long time here. Let's not have it end this way. Instead, let the moderators and administrators do their job, and report any harassment or attacks to them. Any other problems with members should be handled in private, not in some sort of a public theater. That is the absolute best that I can offer to you, or to anyone else. If that's not sufficient, all I can say is that I will be sorry to see you go, and I wish you the best of luck.

This thread is now locked. Please direct any further complaints to the management, either via PM, the suggestion box, or the moderator contact board. I give you my personal word that I will do everything possible to resolve any problems in the fairest and most transparent manner possible. Further posts making unfounded accusations of bias against specific individuals or the site in general will be deleted without warning. Further posts announcing or threatening a dramatic exit from the forum will similarly be removed. 4hv.org cannot and will not serve as a stage for a drama play.
