Hey all

Here are what I have build in relation to the earlier thread about MOC banks: Link2

It consists of 21 microwave oven capacitors in parallel for a total capacitance of 18,5 uF charged to 6000VDC. Resulting in 333j energy stored.

You can see all the pictures and construction notes on my homepage: Link2

I will add a movie later with various explosions, can crushing etc, just need some time to edit it all together :)

Awesome, MadsKaizer! I have bank of 20 MOCs too, but haven't finished constructing it yet. Crushing coins might be hard with just 333J, but you have to try when you can charge the bank up to 500J or so. You've found lot's of useful information, I'll keep your site in mind when I built m bank.

Thanks :D

I actually tried twice to shrink a coin, forgot to write about that. It was a danish 5 kr, which is a rather heavy coin. Link2

First try I just launched it across the garage, second try with some wood around and holding it tight, the coil suicided on me :)

I were at my parents house for a party, so I dusted the MOC bank off that is currently stored in their garage.

It was time for some small water dishcarges, since I read about that in a thread not long ago.

There might be a fruit inthere taking some punishment too, and alot of drunk bystanders :)

Link2

The sound is awful, it was really loud discharges, but the samsung NV24HD camera turns down the sound when it gets "too" loud :/

Performance information: this bank now have atleast 200 shots and still no MOC failures.

Be careful with discharging Microwave Oven capacitors like that. They aren't designed for pulse applications and could explode. And when they do explode, they violently explode.

Wear safety goggles at least.

Dr. Gigavolt: its a relative low energy bank, so lets say there is a failure doing a discharge, most of the energy would have gone in the first ringup, bleeding resistors would start burning some, but all the remaining energy would discharge in the failing capacitor right?

The capacitors are mounted in a room with open side to avoid any pressure buildup if there should be a failure.

Noone stands in the direction of the open side, I can see that my back could have taken a few scrapnels if it was to happen. Looking away and having my head in "cover" opposit of discharge/open side is no excuse for not wearing goggles, but they were at home.

I'm pleased someone followed up my post about discharges in water - if you look up the literature on sonoluminesence you'll perhaps get the drift of my latest ideas.

Doing the holidays I thought why not blow up some snow while its here, so I did :)

With a little help from aluminium foil and steelwool it was somewhat easier to do, low power banks leaves a lot to wish for :)

The bank is somewhere around 250 discharges without failures.
