So with the new year being just around the corner I've been wondering what I've accomplished.

Myself, I've built a coilgun, a SSTC, and subsequently converted the SSTC to crude audio modulation, and also (mostly) finished a 7 channel spectrum analyzer made out of analog components.

I made my first HV project 14th April 2008, a tiny Marx generator and just recently finished my dual 811A VTTC

Its been a good year where I have spend a lot of time and money getting into this hobby and I don't regret one bit of it :)

Started a little collection of imperial roubles (nice coins!). Just didn't have the time to scan one by one.

A few HV projects, new friends, lot of books, ten kilograms weight more...

I made a VTTC (base fed resonant coil) with a 4-400 tube that I got this year

Started working on a 24x24 LED display that I haven't finished yet (I think I need to get some wire wrapping materials)

Started making a dekatron spinner (I need to get the tube so I can mess with it before building the final thing)

Built a better ZVS than my first one (old pic but it's better than all the others)

I must say, this year was very successful with my projects. I built my first big sgtc, Big Red

and i also made my first drsstc,

along with many other small things like a 15 stage marx generator, just recently a 1.5kj capacitor bank. Next year i am going to focus more on microcontroller related projects and learning more programming code.

I have done quite a few things this year, non of which have been very neat or reliable :'(.

I have made the ZVS, which can pump 740 watts continuous with no sign of heat on the heatsink(12 gauge heats up a lot).

First 4 sgtc's, which none were any good. One was with 6kv 30ma nst and some cheap crappy caps, one was the same with cde caps and alot of rebuilt stuff, one was with 12kv 60ma nst and the same cap bank(22nf and about 50kvdc iirc) and one with my pole pig at like 800 watts no load and 1kw with the tesla coil. First gave about 6 inch sparks, second a few more inches, third was about a foot or foot and a half, and the last was about 2 feet. They all used the same secondary, which had a short.

Made a few different sstc's, never ran them at very high voltage, and none ran correct i don't guess.

Fixed my xbox360 dvd drive(i did it successfully thanks to ripping stuff apart, taught me how to take ribbon cables out).

Day before Christmas i made a new bass pedal for rockband, which i still don't play. If i hadn't made it, we would have had to bought the whole drumset.

I made my first vttc with an 811a, then remade to use 2, then remade to use one, then remade with a better secondary.

Made like 4 different vttc's using the tubes out of old tv sets.

Made a small OLTC with about 1/2 inch streamers with 30 volts in, using a 555 and irfp460(WAYY to small for a proper OLTC) using that crap secondary that had a wire broken in the middle the whole time. I am about to make another, with 555 again running in astable, maybe 1khz and 2 72 amp continuous 210 amp 1200 volt igbt's (27n120 iirc).

Best achievement of this year is becoming a member of 4hv(sounds stupid, but i mean it).

There is tons more, but i don't care. They are all small and insignificant anyway, i am sure.

And it's not over yet! I'm working on the big mofo xfrmr, and should also get the HV quadrupler in before new years. If I can do that I might even get some x-ray experiments done before I head back to school. Woo-who-YEAH!! Unstoppable!

Not much on the projects side because of FREGGIN WORK! don't you hate that!! gawd! 50 hours a week doesn't leave you much room for much else these days.

Aside from that, well, I had a pretty good year:

1.) Graduated, B.S.E.E.
2.) Honor Roll award for the 3.5 GPA (one semester, I know that's pretty cheezy)
3.) President's Honor Roll award for the 4.0 GPA (one semester, pretty cheezy too, but hey.. that's for 4 EE classes in my major, and I'm a 2.6 GPA guy)
4.) Work for Aerospace and play on hardware that less then 1% of people can play with
5.) Keeping up with the massive amount of bills I get every week, major bummer for my project budgets.... no $$$ :(
6.) Fitting in at work.....somewhat
7.) not really finished but working really hard on HF power amps right now
8.) Just hangin' in there when times are tough.

I've been quite lazy this year. But still I did some pretty cool things.

I built an eeny-weeny SGTC, powered by transformers from disposable camera flash boards. I was totally astonished by its huge popularity.

I also built my first SSTC which, due to lack of a good power supply, didn't amaze me. But still, the first light of my first ever SSTC was pretty amazing.

I built some other things, including a capbank, an opto-theremin, and an audiomodulated flyback. I'm now focusing on those incredible AVR microcontrollers, and I may even post my first AVR project this year.

As you may have noticed, all my projects have been quite low-powered. There's a reason, I'm quite young and I still have a lot to learn about electricity and HV, so I don't want to mess with high power yet. I rather try to prove that the same functionality can be accomplished with low powers, too. And, for some reason, I like miniature things a lot!

My goals for 2009 include:
- a webpage
- a new SSTC
- maybe upgrade the capbank
