Good day guys

yestreday a good friend of mine come to visit me and beeing a little bored we went down to the workshop to do something. Hmmmm - looking around we've spotet an old SSTC secondary that I've made 2 years back (no varsnish). Soo after thinking thoroly (for 3 seconds cheesey ) we've decided to build a smal RSGTC.

Power supply - ZVS + DC flyback
Primary caps - 3x2.2nF 5kV !!! (yes 5kV russian caps - and they survived with no problem)
primary - 9 turns hellical style
power consumption - unknown confused - the 10A fuse on the secondary side of the transformer didn't blow
Sparks - around 22sm into the air - 26 to grounded object (measured by a friend of mine ) The pics are taken in a day light soo they don't do justice to the lenght. Also the pics of the whole setup - it is a little different in the moment (added the 3rd cap)

Any suggestions about improving things are wellcome (this is my first SGTC and no experience what so ever )

Still thinking shoud I build it nicely and permenently rolleyes I am shure that with a little varnish and better tuning this thing can push more sparks.
Cheers :)

Good day guys

first - sorry for the double posting but I have a big progress

Sooo this night we got together with my friend and started thinkering it. First we've connected the caps as they shoud be - this short wires, *insulated* the secondary with a duck tape (I know I know - but it was already badly damaged sooo I didn't care. Then we've started playing with the coupling and theeeen it turned out that I had too little primary turns - sooo we've added 4 more and started tunning. Suddenly this thing went nuts - around 30sm streamers amazed and sparks comming from everywhere cheesey

Here some pics . A little bit high coupling at the last one.

Cheers :)

Wow, nice! amazed
And this is your first sgtc? NICE! amazed

Hehe. I was planning on making a sgtc with my zvs, but seeing how my zvs kills flybacks in a few seconds ever without the added abuse of a coil, i don't think i could with a regular small dc flyback. What i might do at some point is make another ac flyback with a few kv out, double the voltage, and then some hv caps that i have. It will be fun if it works, but i might need a charging reactor, which i have nothing to use. Anyway... I dont think i have ever seen a tesla using a zvs driver, voltage doubler, AND homemade ac flyback... And rsg at the same time :O

There is always a first time for everything smile

P.S. I am AMAZED at what abuse those 5kv caps can take - the zvs is running at 40V and the ark (of the flyback) starts at more than 20mm - 20kV ?!?

P.S.S. I have to take a decent cammera and make some proper pics.
Cheers smile

Nice results!
Make a new definitive secondary and a permanent setup after refining things, it's worthing.
