Hi all. I am annoyed. For some reason I can't work out WTF I did to make the 10F200 program last Christmas, yet the original code from the working chip reads back and programs fine on a second 10F200 from the new batch.
Get this, when I tried to save it from Micropro25, it *seems* to save fine but fails load with an "Error in HEX file line 64 Invalid character". When I correct this by removing the : it invalidates the checksum. So I can't even see what is wrong :(
Any ideas? This is getting right on my one remaining severely traumatised nerve...

]original.txt[/file]
EDIT:- the problem seems to be in MPASM as well, the code works OK if you remove the very last-but-one line as you can see here.
This file does work better than the one i uses in my LED card instructable, it also includes a failsafe in case the shift register loses bits due to unstable power (a bugbear with the original)

On some early PICs they had an implicit configuration loader and unconditional jump (some just overflow the PC) placed a few bytes from the end of the memory space. Somewhat similar to this block: org 0 jmp coldboot org 4 jmp warmboot ...
;this chip specific code is added org ???? ;load chip config jmp 0 ;or overflow the PC...
Microchip changes the silicon and linkers more often than one would care to recall. Recompile the HEX code then check the chip's silicon errata sheet or Microchip forums.

xorlw 0xfb ;prevents the programmer bricking itself
This fixed at least the "fail before programming a single byte" fault on the Micropro25. I've added it to all the 10F20x INC files.
I'm not sure if I found that to be the problem a year ago, but I've written the swine in indelible marker on my soldering iron case so I will never *ever* forget again!!!!!! GRRR!!!!
Now for the fuse settings. Thanks for your help Carbon-Rod :)

Now for the warp drive.. Getting the RGB LED's (4mm SMD) to work with a 10F200. I did notice something interesting, that TMR0 can't be directly accessed, only via another register such as W.
Next challenge:- using an array of these to control 3 RGB LED's using the "one LED on at a time" trick. Needs careful selection of output resistors and/or diodes in series but can be done.
