Discharging capacitor bank to subwoofer

Hi!

It has been a while when i last time did something like this. I have few broken subwoofers (damaged cones) which cannot be repaired so they are perfect victims. This time i will use my electrolytics (18 x 3300µF/350VDC) connected in parallel resulting 59400µF @ 350VDC -> 3638J

I cant use any higher voltage because sub will most likely flash over internally. My goal is to get as much enery as possible driving cone out and get ultimate destruction! (speaker cone turned inside out flying across room...) cheesey

Has anyone else tried this? I will post some pics and vids when this is done.

It was complete failure. 3.4kJ did just quite loud BOF sound but woofer is still in one piece and totally fine.

Need moar jiggawats

Try seriesing the cap. You just need my di/dt 350v into a 4ohm load is only 30kw, 6kv into a 4r load is 9000kw probably more likely to do damage to the cone wink

Wow a speaker survived that !?!

Id expect that many caps to blow the speaker to pecis across the room. Yeah it might be a good idea to try it in series to get more voltage and get a faster discharge.

Or try the discharge again but with reversed polarity. Maybe when you discharged it the voice coil slammed into the magnet maybe by reversing it you can get the voice coil to go the other direction.

I think the inductance of the speaker might be limiting the current. Also, subwoofers (the good ones) are built to withstand very high peak excursions.

I must say, MORE POWER = ASPLODED SPEAKER
