power adapters do not always filter, you have to check the label: if it is an AC output: no chance if it is pulsed DC: needs to be filtered by a cap most of those adapters do not include a filtering cap, so try that (even if a full-wave bridge rectifier is used, there is a point where the voltage drops to zero due to the AC line voltage inverting its sign, so you get a sorta half of a sine wave repeating itself...
