I have been trying to get some decent sized litz wire for winding transformers and all other HF goodies. Unfortunantly, almost anywhere you go you need to buy huge amounts of it to get it for any decent price.
So far I found one place that quoted me about $400 for a 11lb spool of 105/30 wire (ie, 105 strands of #30 wire). It is about the same size as a #10 wire, and the spool is a little over 300ft long (ie, about $1.2 a foot), which is about 1/2 the best place I have found selling wire by the foot. This wire has solderable insulation, so you do not need any special tools to strip it, just tin it normally with an iron (or you can dip it in a small cup of solder to make things go quicker).
The only other resonable alternative I have found so far is this person on ebay ( ) who wants $100 for a 7.5lb spool, which is about 1/3 the cost, but it is high temp wire so you need to chemically strip the wire--which is something I do not really want to do. But it might be worth it to save $300...
That in mind, $400 is a little steep for what I have planned for the spool, so I am looking for people that are also in need of wire. If you need something a little smaller we can talk, but I think that a #10 would be a good size for good transformers, if you really need to run a lot of power you could parallel a few strands. I think I would like about 1/3 the spool, which leaves about 200ft up for grabs
Any takers?
