Had a power failure at the Hospital the other night. Also disabled the emergency generator so complete darkness. This was the electricians note:
"Just to let you all know what has happened and what is happening with the switchboard that has failed in 'A' Block. A rat managed to gain access to the inside of the switchboard and decided to take a nap using the warm busbars as a bed. The resident electrical current however took exception to this and threw a hissy fit and instantly cooked the rat. The resultant fireball rose rapidly through the switchboard decimating eleven circuit breakers in its path. This switchboard feeds the normal supply breakers to XXX Hospital."
I suppose that happens if you build a hospital near a swamp...

My dad had similar ''accident'' with mouses in fuse box. they almost caused fire and turned to carbon before the fuses finally tripped, some contactor switches ended with their contacts welded... Pity no pics of that.
I also once found a small, fried lizard in old emergency-lighting lamp. It had some batteries, small low voltage supply and HV inverter inside. lizard got inside the inverter and arced itself with HV. When I opened the lamp it looked like some kind of old lizard-mummy. sweet.

No humans were harmed in the making of this production. This hospital is a private hospital that is co-located with a public hospital that has the ICU facilities but on a different supply. The operating theatres were not going at the time. It happened late at night (when rats lie down to sleep in a cosy spot). It is a problem when the controller and protection circuitry goes down which is presumably why the emergency generators couldn't cut in.

Being as the weather is getting cooler over here, all the rodents are making there way inside to warmer habitats, namely TDU's hospital, and my house. I have caught about 15 mice in the last week using olde skoole mousetraps. Unfortunately I am now having other ideas on how to deal with them.

Speaking of rats causing problems... My mom works at the los angeles county sanitation department (ie, where the pipes go) So they have a pump station down by the ocean (because the plant is above sea level), and a rat got in it, shorted out the pumps, AND the telemetry was down before the event occurred so it was hours before they knew about it. Raw sewage on the beach, the sand is full of bacteria, not good. It was especially bad since my mom just got moved to that department, and now she is in charge of dealing with it
