Well, I need a very cold condition to condense a liquid in my distilation apparatus.
In order to achive this, I have to find a way to lower the temperature dramatically while using common household items. I have thought of using dry ice with acetone but didn't have any dry ice. I also thought of using ammonium nitrate in water but was not practical for many design reasons.
Is there another way to make a very cold object using household material?

Can't you just put the assembly in a freezer? Or if you are really feeling adventurous you could pull the cooling coil out of a bar refrigerator and build a smaller coldbox for it to cool your apparatus.

Magnesium Dichloride is a common ice melting salt, I've seen a huge bag (50lbs?) at costco for something like $17. It will give you a solution down to -25F/-32C/241K when melting ice.

Yes, I had thought of using the refridgerator coil as a condenser but I don't any. Same with using the TEC. For now, I will use the salt and ice method.
