I tried that with my other UPS transformer. It made a 10A breaker explode, thankfully I had thought ahead and isolated the breaker in a steel box. So that's bad. I'm hunting for the schematic on the UPS I grabbed them from. Originally in the UPS, the 10AWG wire ran to what looks like FETS or rectifier diodes on huge heat sinks. Which makes sense, the purpose of the transformers is 2 fold. Convert 120V AC into 24V DC to charge batteries. When mains fail, do the reverse, take 24VDC and output 115VAC. Those batteries are huge and require/produce large amperage. I'm taking them home now... I'll measure the resistance on the coils and see where that leads me...

Arc... I'm still not sold on the MOT yet... Let me look at these first.

So I connected them as I believed they should be. They work, output on the big fat secondary leads shows 12.5V.

2 of these together will produce the 25V I was looking for. These suckers weigh about 15kg each. Looks like the MOT is the way to go. I'll have to pickup some heavier wire, the biggest I have is 22AWG magnet wire. My 18,14,and 12AWG has heavy insulation. To be continued...
