Bridge feeding

Hi,
I'm trying to build a SSTC. I saw that some people directly fed the half or full bridge (mosfets) with rectified (half or full wave) mains.
My question is : will this be able to feed the tesla coil at about 300-400 kHz ? Because I tried someting similar (with induction heating) and had the impression that mains is not able to follow that frequency (because of inductance), and it worked a lot better (it was not just the effect of a higher DC voltage because of the filtering) when I placed some smoothing film capacitors across the bridge, that are good at these frequencies.

Independant of frequency, you need to install both film caps as brudge bypass for every case and some smoothing caps for the case you don't need the 50/100Hz modulation you'll get in a system fed by unsmoothed half- and fullwave rectified mains.

Decoupling caps do just as their name suggests: decouple the system from the line inductance feeding it. They may need to be fairly large if there is no DC bulk storage (like a big electrolytic). Several uF for a SSTC for sure.
